the vehicles still up here on marlboro pike. we do know an ambulance was responding to a call when they were heading down marlboro pike. that s.u.v. was coming in the wrong direction. this was a head jan collision but according to fire and ems and what they have been able to gleam, the ambulance swerved out of the way, the s.u.v. side swiped the ambulance ultimately causing the s.u.v. to roll over. it hit a brick wall and utility pole. the three men in the s.u.v. were pronounced dead at the scene. the two men in the ambulance got out to check out the men in the s.u.v. they are now out of the hospital, they are back at the fire house. they are doing ok this morning, but we can tell you because of this investigation that we have

going on right here out on marlboro pike, trying to figure out exactly what took place causing this s.u.v. to cross over the double lines, there's going to be quite a backup for commuters pen crossing drive as well as brooks drive between the two streets,s the closed. >> courtney, thank you, very much. now we turn to our other top story, will the change in the mayor's office mean a shakeup in d.c. schools and whether chancellor michele reid will still have a job when the new person takes over. >> a lot of people have been asking that. michele reid says when she first started talking school reform with mayor fenty, she told him the decisions could cause a lot of consternation. she's made a lot of decisions

including firing a lot of teachers. that could have contributed to mayor fenty losing her job as mayor. but whatever happens she hopes lit continue moving forward. >> i have spent the last 3 1/2 years putting my blood, sweat and tears into reform efforts and we're going to make sure we do whatever we can to try to ensure that they continue. >> now vince gray says he has reached out to michele ri, and she says as well they hope to have a conversation in the coming days about their future and that she looks forward to working with him to see how they can move forward. gray said he wants to work on school reform sanched looking for an 'em powered and inclusive

chancellor, whether that will be michele remains to be seen. >> and former mayor fenty is planning to hand over the reigns of power and will support gray and says he will not run as an independent but does plan to stay in d.c. but won't run for another elected office. >> and republican gubernatorial nominee bob ehrlich is trying to smooth over hurt feelings from the rallies. he's proven his crossover ability and received the endorse ment of primary opponent brian purify. looking now at this day ahead, president obama will try to rally democrats around his tax cut plan. 31 democrats sent a letter to their leadership asking to extend the bush tax cuts for everyone. he only wants to keep them for those making less than $150,000 a year. police are looking for a gunman

who shot a teenager in largo. after a fight broke out involving about 100 young people, a neighbor dueled say teens were standing on his truck. >> it woke me up to go and school kids was standing on it. and i hear four gunshots. i saw three kids running across the street. >> police say an 18 or 19-year-old male was shot in the chest and is listed in serious condition. there were also other fights at niche largo high school but don't believe they were related to those incidents. and a d.c. police officer is one of is indicted on drug charges. officers seized guns, $20,000 in cash plus cocaine, hair win and other drugs. officer mcgwire is on

>> we continue to follow breaking news from district heights this morning. three people died when an s.u.v. collided with an ambulance. a live look at the crash scene on marlboro pike. authorities say the s.u.v. was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it hit the ambulance and then flipped over. the ambulance was responding to a call when the happened. three men in the s.u.v. were

pronounced dead at the scene. two paramedics don't appear to be seriously hurt. police are still investigating this crash. pamela? >> taking a look at the other top stories. d.c. schools chancellor michelle rhee will soon meet withen vincent gray. he says he hasn't yet decided her fate and admits he was factor over mayor fenty. 31 house democrats sent their leadership a letter pushing for all of the bush tax cuts to be extended. the president only wants to keep tax cuts for people making under $250,000 a year. michael jackson's mother has filed a lawsuit against the promoter of his planned comeback tour. katherine jackson accuses them of putting the king of pop through a grueling schedule that could have contributed to his

avoided. we can tell you the ambulance was heading this way down marlboro pike. the s.u.v. was in the same lane heading in the wrong direction. and take a look at what happened. officers tell us the ambulance swerved to avoid hitting the s.u.v. the s.u.v. side swiped that ambulance, ultimately rolled over, hitting a brick wall and a utility poll. -- utility pole coming to rest 20 feet later on its roof. there were three men inside that s.u.v. pronounced dead on the scene. two of the medics inside the ambulance were taken to the hospital. they were treated and released. >> the action of the driver of that ambulance probably saved serious injuries and fatal injuries to our two members. he was able to swerve off enough to the left to avoid a head-on collision and make it a side

schoolal district making a number of controversial decisions. >> i was clear early on the reforms we were going to take on were going to cause a lot of consternation. >> it may have contributed s to mayor fenty losing his job and may cost rhee hers as well with the new administration poised to take over, many are asking if rhee will still be in d.c. >> it will be a conversation and for chairman day, wan the give him tuent bring in his team and work with people he knows is on the same page with him. >> grey says he wants to move forward with an empowered chancellor that is inclusive but hasn't said whether or not that is going to be rhee. >> we will talk. i'm looking forward to talk with her soon. so she has a message from me and as she always does, she'll get back to me. >> both say they look forward to having that conversation to discuss future of d.c.p.s.

>> meantime mayor adrian fenty is making plans for his future. fenty says he will support gray in the future and not wage a right-end campaign or reason as an independent. the mayor says he'll stay in d.c. but doesn't plan to seek another office and says he will find another way to give back to his community. now from battleground maryland. bob ehrlich now has the support of an opponent within his own party. brian murphy received 25% of the republican vote but will now back the former governor. ehrlich moves on to a rematch against democratic incumbent, martin o'malley. >> a man accused of sexual assaulting a woman he met through an online dating service is being held on bond. 34-year-old john evans met the woman through e. harmony. he held her against her will.

gray said he has not yet decided her fate. but the two have not seen eye-to-eye in the past. illegal drug use has risen to its highest level in a decade. the new government report says drug use climbed by 9% last year fueled by a sharp increase in marijuana use and a surge in ecstasy and amphetamine use as well. pope benedict arrived in scotland where he is meeting with queen elizabeth. on his trip the pontiff acknowledged the church gailed decisively to deal with the sex abuse scandals. >> and a showdown looming over bush tax cuts. the tax cuts set to expire at the end of this year. >> today the senate could pass a small business bill, something

option thinks republicans will win control of both the house and senate. they really have momentum going into these last days before the election. >> for the democrats i guess the news isn't so grim paced on the poll results. >> what we found is unlike other polls in this george washington politico battleground poll, republicans and democrats are tied and in critical regionens like the west and midwest, they are holding their own or have strong advantages. so the news isn't exactly that grim on the ground when you actually throw it down. but the problems with the democrats is there'sen thusme lack. >> they overwhelmingly they they are likely to turn now november come fired minorities. >> you list several well known prominent republicans and democrats and there are a lot of people who aren't even familiar with who these people are.
